Reports about the 2014 Mitsubishi Pajero suggest that there will be no major changes for this model but also say that we could be getting all-new version for the next year. This redesigned vehicle could be delivered also with a hybrid powertrain. While we are waiting for completely new generation we will write about the currently available version.
We know that there will be two engine options and that the base unit will be the 2.5 liter inline four cylinder diesel unit while the more powerful will be the 3.2 liter turbocharged direct injection diesel powerplant. Base version will pump out 178 hp at 4000 rpm and 4000 NM of torque that will be available from 2000 to 2850 rpm. Larger and more powerful I4 unit in 2014 Mitsubishi Pajero is capable of producing 200 hp at 3800 rpm and 441 NM of torque at 2000 rpm. Power figures might not be that impressive but we are getting a lot of torque that allows this vehicle to accelerate strongly and to return great fuel economy results.
On the outside we have one quite elegant vehicle with strong and muscular lines. Since it is not been upgraded for quite some time its age start to show and competitors offer more in this segment. Tou can get this vehicle with either two rows or three row of seats and this dictates total length of vehicle. Fact that this is an update of the update gives it a lot of old features that has been upgraded but still it is far from the top of the market offer.
Interior also shows its age and while modern vehicles come with high quality color display trip computer in Pajero dot matrix style. There is no doubt that we have one quite comfortable interior with decent quality materials but it still needs tech for it to be competitive. We are used to see hi-tech features in luxury vehicles and the price of the 2014 Mitsubishi Pajero can go up to $50,000 to $60,000 which certainly brings it into luxury segment. Where competition offers keyless entry and ignition this car brings old fashioned version.
Since 2014 Mitsubishi Pajero is quite high it can be tricky for people under 180 cm to climb inside. Front and back seats provide enough space and decent support but it would be great to see slightly more side support. To further improve comfort on the back there is a three row climate zone control system that can also be disabled if the kids are playing too much with it.
Ride comfort and handling is on pretty good level and it will be able to soak almost all road imperfections. Handling is even better than we would expect from the vehicle of this size and weight so it can be compared to few full size sedans. Another thing that we really like about this vehicle is the turning circle that allows you to easily maneuver even when there is not enough space.
When it comes to fuel consumption it is pretty good even with the larger 3.2 liter diesel. Expect it to burn about 12 liters of diesel per 100 km in city drive conditions while on open road it can go even under 10 liters per 100 km when driven at constant pace and at about 100 km/h. This can be achieved mostly thankfully to the large amount of torque that is available even under 2000 rpm so there are no needs for you to rev it high, always keeping it in optimum rev range.

Since the Russian market is one of the most important markets for Mitsubishi and this model it is quite logical for the 2014 Mitsubishi Pajero to be unveiled at the Moscow Motor Show. Plans of Japanese car maker is to even improve sales and that can be quite difficult if there will be no significant changes for Pajero. Have in mind that this car has pretty much iconic status on some markets.
